The Pop Sounds of the 80's! Early 80s Pre-MTV, Post MTV (The medium that changed the way we "saw" music). The decade of decadence.

Michael Jackson, Van Halen, Prince, Genesis, Madonna, New Kids On The Block, Air Supply, Kool & The Gang, Culture Club, George Michael..... (I can go on, but I will let YOU finish the list for me!) Did we mention, how about those one hit wonders!

The decade launched with "Urban Cowboy" even making New Yorkers take notice. The period of Country before "Garth Brooks - mania!" Alabama, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Ronnie Milsap, Oak Ridge Boys.

After the peak of 70s Disco, and Steve Dahl's Disco Demolition in Chicago, Disco re-found itself as "Dance Music" in the 80s. Featuring a WIDE range of styles, House, Urban, Hip House, Euro (Italo Disco), Freestyle, Acid, Dance Pop among others. Accepted on radio and on the dance floors from Coast to Coast.

Lime, Madonna, Mr Lee, Expose', Colonel Abrams, Evelyn King, Yaz.... and the beat goes on!

The days before "Grunge". Depeche Mode, The Smiths, XTC, The Cure, New Order.

The 80s produced a lot of different forms of rock. Some were more fun, others were more gritty and edgy.

Metallica, Poison, Ozzy, Van Halen, Cinderella, Guns N Roses, Megadeath, Def Leppard. Rock on!

The 80s, especially in its first few years, after the Disco backlash of the 70s, produced a lot of soft sounds. Christopher Cross, Air Supply, Barbara Streisand, Dan Fogelberg, Atlantic Starr, Kenny G, Richard Marx, Anita Baker.

What songs were you slow dancing and daydreaming of love in the 80s?

The decade where Urban music redefined itself after the 70s being so attached to "Disco". Urban radio in the 80s was home to artists like, Luther Vandross, SOS Band, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Keith Sweat, GrandMaster Flash, Jody Watley, New Edition, Anita Baker.

But Urban radio was friendly to White artists in the 80s like Phil Collins, Hall & Oats, Madonna, Teena Marie among others.

Well, this is the old standby, "Other" category. New Age, Instrumental, Jazz, or anything else that won't fit in the other categories above!

Side note: The 80s was the decade that "Beautiful" Music faded off , being replaced by Soft Rock in Elevators, Dentists offices and radios!

Remember Smokey the Bear Public Service Announcements all over the TV? Max Headroom & Pepsi? "I've fallen and I can't get up!" Can you name the product referenced? "Where's the Beef" & Mr. Microphone yelling "I'll pick YOU up later!"

But the BIG story of the 80s was the personal computer. Apple had the lead, IBM PC 5150 made its appearance in 1981, Commodore, Tandy and Osborne fell aside, along with most other upstarts in the decade.

What sitcoms were your favorite? Which ones got on your nerves?

Everyone remembers Atari 2600 as the 1st Personal Video Game Console, even though it made its debut in the 70s. But does anyone remember PONG, the actual 1st one? Others were Atari 5200/7800, Intellivision , ColecoVision , Sega, Nintendo, handheld Game Boy and a ton of other smaller ones.

Which kept you plastered to the TV set working for the next level?

What types of clothing were popular in the 80's? What fashion statements were made?

Did you & your family own stock in Aqua Net? Were you a Parachute Pants person? Followed by I.O.U? Still have a pair of those Members Only threads stashed away in that box in the corner of your basement?

Ahhhhh, memories. Good & bad. Happy or Sad? Where were you? What were you doing?

Glued to the TV when John Lennon or President Reagan were shot? The Space Shuttle Challenger disaster? Happiness on the fall of the Berlin wall?

What fads did you like the most? What were such a "flash in the pan" that you forgot about them?
